I go through mega music binges. I’m not the only one, right? Like, some weekends, I just want to listen to one artist and one artist only. Right now, I’m in a total Whitney Houston phase. She will forever and always be one of my favorites. And I will always be in mourning for losing one of the greats too soon. This afternoon, I was jamming out to “How Will I Know?” which is tied with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” as my favorite Whitney song. Anyway, I was listening to the lyrics and I was thinking that she’s actually asking a really great question. How will you know when your boo really loves you? Here are three major hints.
He puts you first
A friend recently told me that she and her husband get along so well because his number one priority is her happiness and her number one priority is his happiness. When you prioritize the one you love and they do the same to you, a relationship just works. Think about it. Does your man plan his week around you, or do you just slot yourself in whenever he’s available? Does he put his wants aside to fulfill your needs? Do you know that if you ever called him, he’d come running? When a man loves you, you are his number one without questions.
You’re not afraid to fight
One of my girlfriends was complaining about sex with her boyfriend of a few months. It sounded like she was bored and he was kind of a dead fish in bed. I told her to talk to him about it. She said that would open a whole can of worms and he’d get mad and end it. So, she just stayed quiet. Um, that’s not a relationship and that’s not true love! You have to be able to bring up issues and discuss them like adults without being afraid that the other person is going to bail. You also have to be able to all out fight and know that no matter what the outcome, your man is going to be around when the dust settles. If you think there’s something you can say to your man that would make him walk out the door, then it’s not love.

And by this I don’t mean, “you know when you know.” I mean you know because he tells you. He says that he loves you and he isn’t afraid to express it in different ways on a daily basis. Don’t make excuses for him. No man worth loving is closed off enough that he won’t make his woman feel loved regularly. Be sure you’re getting the warm and fuzzies from your fellow. They’re important!
