At this point in the year, we’re all in countdown mode to summertime. Memorial Day, you can’t get here soon enough. Hurry! One of the many, many things I love about summer is that it’s a great time for singles to mingle, meet and create lasting relationships. Did you read that closely? I wrote “lasting relationships.” Not “summer flings.” I’m very against the seasonal fling. But back to the point, summer is a great time to meet new people because the nice weather brings everyone out. Here are five great destinations to meet men during the summertime.
Outdoor drinks
Drinking outside is one of the greatest pleasures of warm weather. It brings all kinds of newbies to a bar. Scope out a few in your area and plan a night alone or with one other friend. (No more than the two of you, though. A gaggle of women is way too intimidating!) Look for bars that have a lot of bar seating and standing space. That’s where the conversation magic happens. You can’t be sitting at a table. That’s too closed off and uninviting.
Beach house shares
In the summer, a lot of times groups of friends get together and share a beach house. Each person takes a small sliver of the cost of renting the house for the summer and gets to spend a small sliver of the summer at that house. I say join as many of these shares as your calendar and wallet will allow. You’ll meet a ton of new guys at each one of these shares, and the environment is intimate (hello, you’re living with him for the weekend!) but not high pressure. The perfect combo.
Sporting events
Another thing that comes with sunshine is outdoor games. These can be professional sports or just a local kickball game. Any kind of spectator sport is a great place to meet guys. And you don’t even have to like the sport or know much about it for this to be a great pick-up destination. “Hey, what just happened in that play?” is a perfect opening line.
Weddings
Summertime is unofficially wedding season, and while weddings can be tough for single girls, they really are huge opportunities. When else can you walk into a room of 300 people and have a friend point out exactly who is single and who’s a total douche? Timesaver! And don’t be afraid to work the room and visit other tables. Just pretend that you’re checking to see if they got the same salads you did and start up a conversation with the cutie who’s eating the beet and goat cheese salad.
The bar at a steak restaurant
This place works any season. Head to a steak place early, like 5 p.m., and sit at the bar with a martini and a smile. I personally guarantee that by 7 p.m. you’ll be deep in conversation with an eligible bachelor.
