The exception to the rule: When it’s OK to have a summer fling

I know, I know. I gave summer flings the big thumbs down a few weeks ago right here on PattiKnows, but I’m not 100 percent anti-summer flings. There’s probably about 10 percent of the time where a summer fling makes sense and isn’t the absolute worst thing you can do in the romance department. Here’s when you’re in the clear to fling away.

When you’re somewhere else

If you’re in a new place for the summer and leaving as soon as the summer’s over, like teachers working a summer camp for the season, that’s the perfect set-up for a totally kosher summer fling. I’m marking this case as OK because it’s a constrained period of time and expectations — both yours and his — are managed. You go in knowing an end date and never confuse Mr. Summer for Mr. Perfect.

When you’re not looking for anything

If you’re not on the hunt for your forever hunny, then go for it. I know there are some ladies out there who aren’t looking for love at all. But, um, why are you reading my blog? I’m here to help people find lasting love, not bump nasties for a few weeks. So if this is you, go for your summer fling without a care in the world, and I guess I hope you find the rest of the content on this blog educational.
