If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all of my years of being a professional relationship and love expert, it’s that nothing is constant in the world of love. Relationships ebb and flow. People we love hurt us and we hurt them. It’s just what love is... a rollercoaster of emotion. It’s a crappy position to be in when you’re the one who did the hurting and are hoping for forgiveness. It’s a tough and vulnerable situation to be in. (Of course I’m not saying it’s worse than being the hurt party, but they both have their own very demanding emotional trajectories.) I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn broke up. The entire internet seems to be relieved, acting like Charlize breaking off the engagement saved her from a lifetime of misery with Penn. Honestly, I never had much of an opinion on this couple. I 100% see why there were a good match for well over a year—talent, lifestyle, drive, etc. But, the general public reaction to their split got me thinking about how you should react when your friend ends a relationship that you hated. Have you heard that Katy Perry is releasing a new song called 1984? Subtle, Katy. Real subtle. For those of you not in the know, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are in a feud. On Taylor’s latest album, which is called 1989, she wrote a song that’s allegedly about Katy Perry entitled Bad Blood. One of the rumors is that Katy Perry was never that nice to Taylor and the straw that broke the camel’s back was when Katy Perry stole some of Taylor’s back up dancers to bring on Katy’s tour. I’m sure Katy has her side of the story as well. There’s also the confounding factor that both of them dated-slash-are-currently-dating John Mayer. The plot thickens because Katy just listed a new song with her publisher called 1984. That seems like a direct connection to Taylor’s album, right? Anyway, if two super busy, incredibly talented women can find the time to feud publicly, then I’m assuming most people have some sort of
