I'm getting questions from guys left and right! This is great. I love having universal appeal. I also love this reader, so we will call him Reader I Love. You will see how cute he is. He writes:
Hi Dr. Psych Mom,
Background
I just graduated from college. My girlfriend and I have talked about it and both want to try long distance (I will be in San Francisco, she'll be in Chicago; this will be the case for at least the next year, most likely two years). We have over the past three months developed a deeply open/trustful/communicative relationship (the deepest I've ever been in), and so I think that will be a strength going into the long distance relationship. We are also in the same line of work and have similar career goals, so there will be common ground and the opportunity to share quite a bit on a day to day basis.

Refinery Rooftop at The Refinery Hotel
With weather this perfect, there’s no excuse to drink inside! Fall is my favorite time for rooftop bars and the last time I was at Refinery it was a perfect night: Our bottle of Prosecco was complimented by the twinkling lights strung above us and a stunning view of the Empire State Building. I’m rarely a fan of Midtown, but Refinery Rooftop is just the vibe I’m looking for when the air gets crisp. If there’s a wait, take your time and order a cocktail from Winnie’s Lobby Bar. You won’t be disappointed.
PERCH
This is the perfect spot for either a daytime brunch or a night of dinner and/or drinks. Placed in the heart of Downtown LA, Perch offers a classy and trendy ambience without breaking the bank—not to mention the breathtaking rooftop view of the city! Just make sure to plan ahead and make reservations so you don’t end up in that long line that spans around the corner.
The Beehive
The Beehive is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. Live music compliments the fabulous dinner menu, along with the wonderful service that completes the experience. I was fortunate enough to go this establishment with my friends for my 25th birthday, and use it as a nightcap on a wonderful date with a guy that I am hopeful of writing about again. The drinks are creative and delicious (especially if you have a sweet tooth like me). You’ll remember the night you attend the Beehive whether you enjoy it with girlfriends or a hot date.
The Sun Dial Restaurant
Want to make your date feel on top of the world? Take them there! Well, at least to the top of Atlanta at The Sun Dial Restaurant. This revolving restaurant is an Atlanta favorite and not only provides a beautiful atmosphere on the inside but breath taking views on the outside! It is a bit pricey (and it is mostly the ambiance you’re paying for), but once you take in the view, it’ll be worth it!
The Sutler
Who says live music has to remain in the Broadway Honky Tonks? The Sutler in Melrose provides live music and a trendy bar vibe that is absolutely perfect for a date; casual yet upscale. Live bands give you a fabulous excuse to lean in a little closer to talk to your date, which is never a bad thing! In addition to the great atmosphere, The Sutler is affordable with a bottle of Pinot Noir for $24, a steal!
“Shareables” on dates add a bonding experience and an additional topic of conversation. The Sutler’s menu is conducive to this featuring “snacks”, “dunks”, and “veggies” options. Picking and choosing which culinary creations to split is both fun and flirty.
If you’re not quite ready to call it a night, you and your date should check out the amazing lounge downstairs. It has a vibe that reminiscent of a speakeasy in New York or Chicago. It provides a new environment to liven up your date with the convenience of not having to leave the restaurant!
