In Atlanta, A person’s world can revolve around different things: their career, their family, their health, and when they’re fortunate to have one: their love interest. However when the dynamics change and one of those things are no longer a part of their world, nine times out of ten, a person begins to center their world around something (or someone) else.
Recently, I got a text from a number that looked familiar but wasn’t in my phone. It was a screenshot of my Tinder profile attached with the message: “Somebody’s on Tinder huh? How are you”? Now anybody who knows me knows I don’t really make it a secret that I’m on Tinder. In fact, I wrote a story about it (shameless plug). So it was funny to me that this unidentified individual was sending me a screenshot like they had just uncovered some big secret. I asked “who is this”? Turns out it was a guy from high school whom I haven’t spoken to in years but at that time, my world revolved around. As we began to catch up, he seemed surprised that I didn’t know what he had been up to. He left Atlanta a while back and moved elsewhere. With bewilderment in his voice he said “I thought you knew”? How would I (I thought to myself)? Was there a story about it in the Atlanta Journal Constitution? No? Oh ok. He also seemed to think I was joking when I didn’t know who he was when he texted.
Now without divulging my age, just know that I’ve been out of high school for a while now and the number of people I keep in touch with I can count on one hand. Not to mention in that length of time, things happen, phones change, and numbers get lost. However, my blast from the past couldn’t fathom that I’d lose/misplace his number.
I truly believe some guys think that once they ‘re no longer a part of our world (and for whatever reason, resurface again) nothing changed and they’re able to pick right back up where they left off.
I know this might come as a shock to some of you guys (and I seriously hate to be the one to break this to you) but……our world still turns after you. I won’t lie and say that it instantly starts turning again in some cases, but eventually it does. I truly believe some guys think that once they ‘re no longer a part of our world (and for whatever reason, resurface again) nothing changed and they’re able to pick right back up where they left off. No, you didn’t see anybody else. You didn’t think about anybody else. In fact, you prayed to the love Gods all day, everyday for that glorious moment where they’d find their way back to you and all will be right with the world again.
Who knows, maybe there is that one unicorn of a woman that did keep tabs on a guy (and pray to those love Gods) despite his world no longer revolving around her. However for most women, as the world turns, they keep turning right along with it.
