Is Dating A Single Mom For You?

Looking for an independent, super woman? A single mom might be just what you need, but think before you leap; Dating a single mom isn’t for everyone.

Our lives are typically busier than our kid-free counterparts so we don’t have time to play games. Getting us on a first date is the easy part, but it takes serious effort to keep us interested.  Plus, we’ll only keep you around if the relationship is a good thing for our kid too.

It takes patience, confidence, and a grown-up attitude for a relationship with a single mom to stand the test of time. Is dating one for you? Here are some things to consider before you let yourself fall for that single mom you’ve been crushing on.

She’s looking for more than a good time

Do your weekends still include living it up until last call? The bulk of a single mom’s compassion, devotion and sympathy is reserved for her child –which is why she will have little patience for any signs that you are irresponsible. She already has someone to take care of and is looking for a partner, not a playmate. I’m not saying she doesn’t know how to have fun and won’t enjoy going out once in awhile with you, but she’ll need you to have more hobbies than drinking to keep her interested.

She wants you to be a good role model

A single mom always has her child’s best interest at the forefront of her mind. Even if her ex plays an active part in her kid’s life, when things start to get serious she’ll want you to be someone they can look-up to. If I ever move in with someone, they need to be a positive male role model for my son. Take an honest look at who you are right now. Decide if you can or are even willing to be a role model before seeking out a relationship with a single mom.

She’ll never be at your beck and call

Single moms usually can’t be spontaneous because they often need to make plans ahead of time for the sake of their children. They also have much more to worry about than when you’re going to call or text next. Our lives are already full of responsibilities. Can you handle your girlfriend’s world not revolving around you?

She doesn’t need you to make her happy

Probably the most important thing to realize about dating a single mom is that she doesn’t need a man to make her happy. She’s fiercely independent and already provides for herself and her family. She’s built a life for herself that she loves, with or without you in it. In fact, your biggest challenge may be proving your worth! Are you up for it?
